Are you looking for a way to earn money from home? Do you want to become a work at home mom? These are some of the questions the Be The Boss Network asks you when you arrive at their site. Of course, there are many people who are searching for jobs online, but is this the best place to start looking?
What is Be the Boss Network?
Be the Boss Network (BTB) is a website that is designed to help people find work at home jobs or home-based businesses. In reality, it is more or less a site that gives you a directory of multi-level marketing (MLM) companies.
Who is it for?
The BTB website says it’s for anyone who wants to work from home. They provide you with multi-level marketing opportunities plus a few other make money from home jobs. The majority of opportunities on this site will cost you money. If you are reading this because you want to earn some money online then this is not for you.
How does BTB work?
There’s not much to the BTB site, it’s really just a directory of MLM companies. If you decide that network marketing is for you, then you can browse through the directory. BTB gives you a brief description of each company and the initial cost.
With many MLM companies, there are often upsells once you’re signed up. These upsells are often marketed in a way that makes it seem that the upsells are vital to your success. Even after purchasing the “vital” upsells you are very likely to fail.
It is possible to register with the BTB network, you give them your name and email address, but I cannot see what advantage it has for you. Furthermore, I would say it probably has some disadvantages when you look at their privacy policy. An extract is below.
I did give them my email address and up to now, I have not received any emails trying to sell me any products or services.
Out of interest, I researched the first company (ACN) on the featured list of BTB.
This what I found on ripoffreport.com
In addition to this, there are also many comments on different sites from ex ACN members saying it is a scam. I checked on this company by chance as it was first on the list and it had a five-star review.
There are some other more legitimate companies in the directory. Nonetheless, whatever online business you choose always research the business opportunity to see what people are saying about it and to determine its reputation.
What is Multi-level Marketing?
If you’re new to the world of online business, you might not be sure how multi-level marketing works. MLM is a marketing method where the sales force earns commissions for the sales they generate personally and also from the sales of others that they have recruited. This creates multiple levels of compensation.
This may sound good, but MLM companies are often the subject of criticism and even lawsuits. Much of this criticism comes from their similarity to pyramid schemes. The companies are often accused of having overpriced products, high initial start-up costs and they also put the emphasis on recruiting salespeople rather than making sales. You are frequently required to buy the company’s products to stay a member or to have enough points to be paid your commissions. Often you are encouraged to sell products to and even recruit your immediate circle of friends and relations.
Some of the better known MLM companies are Avon, Amway, Herbalife, Melaleuca, and Tupperware. There are some legitimate MLM companies that have quality products that you can sell so you don’t have to concentrate on recruiting new members. As I said before, do your research.
Personally, MLM is not a business model I recommend. MLM companies will probably cost you a lot of money to join and you will earn next to nothing.
How does BTB network make their money?
BTB may earn some commission through referrals from their site. When I clicked on one of the links on the site I did see the name of Dennis Seifert, who is the CEO of Responsive Data, the owners of BTB.
Another way that the owners of the site make money is by selling their products: Power Dialer Pro, Ultimate Prospector, and other marketing tools for the network marketer. There are ads for these products on the site. In the FAQ there is also a reference to their products as you can see below.
This may be quite normal, but in my opinion, it raises the question of who the site is really for, people who are looking for an online job, as they infer, or Responsive Data promoting their products.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- free to consult the directory
Cons
- most job opportunities are with MLM companies
- misleading information about providing quality home business opportunities
- could appear interesting to newbies
- site not kept up to date – articles dating from 2011
Tools and training
There is no training on the BTB network. The individual companies that you sign up for will provide any training.
Help and Support
The only support on the site is the FAQ. If you sign up with one of the companies advertised on the site, your support will come directly from them.
How much does it cost?
BTB is free to use. After all, it is only a directory of MLM companies. You will pay to join most of the MLM companies either with a sign-up fee or by buying products or both and very often upsells as well.
My final opinion
The Be the Boss Network is not a scam, but it’s not a site I would recommend. I don’t like multi-level marketing and if you are new to searching the earn money online market, you should remember that very few people (some reports say just 1%) actually make money with MLM. The other 99% fail and pay the earnings of the successful 1%.
With MLM schemes you are not providing real value to your referrals. They join the program and are then taught how to get more people to join the scheme. If you are desperate you will try to get people to join even if you know they are not going to make any money or rather they are going to lose money. If you feel you can do this give it a try, but for me it’s unethical.
The BTB network MLM directory contains many companies that have some bad reviews when you research online. This means that the directory is just an alphabetical list of MLM companies not a directory of MLM companies that are trustworthy.
This is contrary to the impression that BTB gives their readers saying there are committed to quality home business opportunities.
Consequently, in my opinion, this isn’t a site that is helpful to people looking for legitimate online business opportunities.
Verdict: Not recommended
Do you want a legitimate online business?
For anyone looking for an honest approach to starting an online business or working from home, I would recommend Wealthy Affiliate.
It certainly isn’t an MLM. It is an online educational platform where you are taught from A -Z about how to build your online internet marketing business. This is not a get rich quick scheme, but a sustainable business opportunity, and to my knowledge, it’s one of the few that shows you the correct steps to becoming successful online.
Take a look at the comparison table below and you will see some of what Wealthy Affiliate has to offer and why it’s my #1 recommendation.
If you have any questions about BTB Network or Wealthy Affiliate please leave a comment below. I’ll be happy to reply.

BTB Network
Summary
Description: BTB is basically a site with an MLM directory. They say they are committed to quality home business opportunities to help you achieve your financial goals.
Price: free
My opinion: Unfortunately BTB is not all of what it promises. Many of the MLM companies in the directory are not trustworthy opportunities. If you are a newbie you might be taken in and loose your money.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the review on Be the Boss Network, you have provided a lot of detailed information. I always love the products review because it saves our time and energy. It can also save us money. Thanks for the guidance. This review is going to help people to make a decision on whether to purchase this product or not. Keep up the great work and wishing you great success. All the very best!
Your Friend,
Paul
You’re welcome Paul! In this case, my review won’t save anyone any money because the information they give is free. But you’re right searching for reviews should be the first reflex before investing in any make money online schemes.
All the best,
Peter
Peter, you seem to know your way around making money online. I have seen tons of scams out there and I am very discouraged that there is no real way to get an online job and work from home. I am a college student right now and looking for a way to make some extra money. Anyway you could point me in the right direction? Great post by the way.
Thanks,
Brady
Hi Brady,
Yeah, there are so many scams it’s really hard to find a decent program. I appreciate that you want to earn some extra money and I think the best way to get started is to create an affiliate marketing business. You must be prepared to work hard and probably for several months before you will see your first sale. The important thing is to be determined and never give up. If you pick a hot niche you can see what is possible in this article. Although success like this in just over a year is rare.
The best platform I have found that provides everything you need, especially great training, is Wealthy Affiliate, you can join for free and even have 2 free websites, but to really be successful and get the full training you need to become a premium member, which has a cost of $47 per month.
Apart from that there are the surveys sites or paid to click sites most of which are genuine but largely a waste of time.
Wealthy Affiliate is a great platform and it’s worth checking out the free membership, you will learn how to set up a WordPress website and also choose your niche, which are vital pieces of the puzzle.
Glad you enjoyed my Be the Boss Network review and if I can be of any further help let me know.
Cheers,
Peter
I am a single mother of 4, I was a stay at home mom for 14 years. I lost over $800 trying different programs (scams). I am disabled making less than $1000 a month I want to work! Working from home seems to be my only option. I am extremely surprised the government doesn’t try to employ disabled people working from home. It would strengthen the social security system, because instead of handing out disability cheeks we would be earning the money. We could get out of Medicare, and pay for our own insurance. I appreciate your recommendation. I am just not sure the financial gain would match the time, effort and possible investment. If you could give me some idea as to what I can expect from the company as well as what they will expect of me. I am unsure (due to past experience) of committing to an online “system”. Would you please explain affiliate marketing, do I need to have a large group of people to invest before I see a penny? Thank you so much for your time, effort and honesty.
Heather
Hi Heather,
So sorry to hear you have lost so much money with these scams and I agree the government could do more to encourage disabled people to work from home. You would all feel much better if you were self-sufficient. You’re right to ask questions about my recommendation and I can tell you a little about my experience at Wealthy Affiliate. When you join you have a free trial and lessons that will enable you to have a site up and online in a few hours/days depending on how familiar you are with the internet etc. You have a week to have a good look around follow some training, join in discussions, go into live chat… just to get a good idea if this might be a good fit for you.
After the first week, you have the choice to become a premium member $47 per month or stay as a free member. If you stay as a free member you can keep your free websites but you receive no more training. Premium membership gives you access to all the training and all the tools you need to run a successful online business. The time you will need to build your business is a minimum of 2 hours per day the more time you can devote the better. You should bear in mind this is a long-term commitment, you might not earn money in your first six months but if you keep working and never give up the money will come. Personally, it took me 10 months to achieve my first sale, but I could only consecrate 2 hours per day to this site and the make money online niche is pretty competitive.
Your main work will be writing articles for your site, the subject of your site (niche) should be something you are passionate about or interested in as you will be writing about it for a while. Affiliate marketing is promoting other companies products, you find a (legitimate) product related to your niche, you promote it by including links in your articles or on your site when people click on your affiliate links and make a purchase you earn commissions. You don’t need people to invest, you just need traffic, which you get from the articles you write being ranked in the search engines.
Hope that answers most of your questions, Heather, if you have any further queries don’t hesitate to let me know.
All the best,
Peter
Hi Peter,
I’m not a fan of MLM’s to begin with. In my twenties I tried several and I would get the same response like Cathy got, everybody smiles politely, a few buy, and I was left with excess product and disappointment.
I hadn’t heard of this be the boss network, but I enjoyed reading your review. Sounds like a clever way to get network marketers to buy more products – just what they need 🙂
Excellent review Peter and I’ll make sure to stay away from be the boss network, listing of MLM’s, could it get any worse.
Cheers,
Todd
Hi Todd,
I think MLM’s could be a way to lose friends. It is certainly not something I would envisage doing. What I particularly don’t like with this program is the fact that Be The Boss Network gives you the impression that all the schemes in the directory are legit. The majority are not and as so often the newbie who goes for one of these schemes will end up losing his money.
Thanks as always for your feedback Todd.
Peter
I had never heard of the Be the Boss Network.
I’ve been involved with MLM’s before – won’t go there again.
… just like you said, only a very small percentage of people ever make much money with it – at least that was my experience – and the money you end up paying into it adds up.
This was a great article – Thanks!
Yes MLMs are to be avoided in my opinion, it’s very hard to make money in an MLM network. The people who are enticed into theses schemes will probably end up losing money, friends and belief that it’s possible to make money online.
Thanks for your comment Joanne.
Hi Peter,
This is one MLM that I have not heard before and thanks for going through the business model with us. I was involved in a very popular MLM company a year ago and they really got me thinking a lot about my financial security.
But I didn’t fancy the bling-bling lifestyle that they portray and worst, everyone that I try to refer, gave me the cold shoulder. They treated me as if I belong to a cult. I was in and out of MLM until I discovered affiliate marketing through Wealthy Affiliate program.
One year later, I am still with the program and I have yet to have someone tell me that this is a bad idea. Plus, I am learning so many ways to make business interesting online, which I think is the trend going forward for future entrepreneurs.
I can certainly see myself becoming successful with WA over any MLM models out there.
Cathy
Hi Cathy,
The Be the Boss Network promotes MLM companies as being a good work from home opportunities. Their directory has a few genuine companies and many MLM scams, where people will just lose their money. It’s a shame they aren’t more selective with the companies they promote.
MLMs are not something I appreciate, I don’t want to try to sell products or memberships to family and friends. I prefer to sell something where people come to me or my website because they are looking for some information or a certain product, as in affiliate marketing.
I am glad you are enjoying your internet marketing with Wealthy Affiliate and I wish you much success.
Thanks for stopping by,
Peter
