Today it’s possible to build a website with WordPress in a very short time, in 30 seconds. If you have been used to the old methods of building a website with HTML, this might sound a little far-fetched, but the times have changed.
Using the WordPress platform things are much simpler. In this article, I will explain how to create your own website in just 30 seconds. Later in this post, you can see a video that takes you through the whole process.
I have another site that is made with HTML and the amount of time I spend creating a page or changing something is much longer than if the site was in WordPress. In fact, one of my next tasks is to change the site to WordPress, which will make the task of administering the site much easier.
What is WordPress?
WordPress is an open-source website creation tool, created in 2003. It’s easy to use and is probably the most powerful content management system (CMS) available.
WordPress is an open-source project, which means it’s free. There are thousands of volunteers all over the world constantly working on the WordPress code to improve the software. Add to this all the plugins, widgets and different themes, it is possible to build a website for more or less anything.
Since being introduced WordPress has revolutionized the way websites are built. Even so, it is still necessary to have some knowledge about hosting, FTP (file transfer protocol) and setting up a database.
WordPress.org and WordPress.com
I have often seen people speaking about WordPress.org or WordPress.com and for a long time, I didn’t know what the difference between them was. So I will explain.
The major difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org is who actually provides the hosting for your website.
With WordPress.org, you need to have your own hosting for your blog or website. You can download the WP software from WordPress.org and install this on your own web server.
WordPress.com provides the hosting for your website. You don’t have to download the software, get and pay for hosting, or look after the running of a web server.
Although WordPress.com is free your domain will, by default, include “WordPress.com” for example mysite.wordpress.com. It is possible to upgrade to a more traditional .com domain name, but you will have to pay. You also can’t upload any custom themes, plugins or modify the code in the backroom of your site.
Using WordPress from WordPress.org gives you more control and flexibility for your site. Using a self-hosted version of WordPress means you can use your own domain name, upload and install the themes and plugins that you want and you also have access to your site’s database. For a professional or business website, it is recommended using WordPress.org and that is what we will be using to build our website below.
WordPress Express at Wealthy Affiliate.
As WordPress can be a little difficult to install, Wealthy Affiliate created WordPress Express back in 2010. With WordPress Express building a website has been simplified a maximum and getting a website up and running has never been so quick and easy.
This is a 3 click tool for setting up your website.
- choose your domain name
- choose your theme
- create your site
This will save you loads of time and it is very easy to do. It’s no longer necessary to know HTML, PHP, FTP, MySQL databases or anything else. Everyone is capable of doing this and although I know a little HTML, I much prefer this.
This site is made using WordPress Express and you need absolutely no technical knowledge. I can update, create content or add media to my pages via the WordPress interface in a matter of minutes.

Get your own free website

Yes, unfortunately, residents from some countries aren’t allowed to create free accounts due to fraud and spam. These countries are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Philippines, and Vietnam. Sorry but there is nothing I can do!

There are many opportunities to have a free website with companies like Wix, Weebly or SiteRubix. Which means you can start for free! Unfortunately, free websites don’t look very professional they will have a domain name of the type yourusername.wixsite.com/yoursitename with Wix or yoursitename.siterubix.com at SiteRubix. In addition, you may have adverts on your site and other limitations of what you can or cannot do.
If you want to earn money from your website you have the choice to follow some paid training or search on the internet for free tutorials. It is possible to find some free resources online but this will take time searching for reliable up to date information.
I would recommend taking the free lessons at Wealthy Affiliate. You will learn some important steps to setting up an online business and also start using the WordPress platform which is the platform I recommend. After going through the starter lessons and if you really can’t afford the Premium membership then I would get some cheap hosting (about $8 per month) and install WordPress. Search for free training resources when you need help.
It is possible to build a money earning website like this, it will just take longer. Remember it is hard work and will take time before you start earning money, so be patient.

I’m afraid there are a few countries that aren’t allowed to create a free account, at SiteRubix (Wealthy Affiliate), and Nigeria is one of these countries. If you want a free website there are a few different companies you could try like Wix, Weebly or Wordpress.com. You will get a free site but no training in setting up an online business.

iam naveen from india. i tried to sign up for wealthy aff… but my location is not under their preferences and ii asking to sign up for premium membership. can i get those lessons and wordpress software offline from that website?

I’m very sorry that you can’t sign up as a free member. There are a few countries that aren’t allowed to sign up for free the membership and India is one. You can’t get the lessons from Wealthy Affiliate without becoming a member but you can use the WordPress software for free either by building a site with WordPress.com or installing WordPress on your own hosting. Then there are many tutorials on building a website with WordPress that are available online.

I have just seen you have managed to sign up to Wealthy Affiliate. That’s great, I’ll see you on the other side.
Incidentally, your problem might have been caused if someone has previously used the computer or the IP address you were using to create an account. For anyone else with the same problem, it’s always a good idea to try another computer or a different internet connection.
